Grain yield losses in maize due to Late Wilt and Turcicum Leaf Blight in Maize (up to 100%0 (Jain and Kothari, 1983), (29-91%) (UIIstrup, 1952) have been reported. Both these diseases are considered as the major diseases on maize crop in peninsular India including Andhra Pradesh (Anon, 1988). Hence and effort was made in the present study to collect information on the variability and heritability parameters for late wilt and turcicum leaf blight resistance in some of the selected maize parental lines known for their good combining ability and agronome characters under artificial maculated conditions.

Fertilizer Responsiveness and Yield Potential of Hybrid Maize
Potential of Hybrid Maize Field experiments were conducted on sandy loam soils (Alf sols of low to medium soil fertility status) at Rajendranagar campus, Hyderabad during two successive kharif seasons of 1991 and 1992 at the same site leaving the land fallow between the seasons to assess fertilizer responsiveness and yield potential of hybrid maize…
Genetic analysis of flowering period in Rabi maize (Zea Mays L.)
Abstract The estimates of gene effects for days to 50 percent flowering period in rabi maize were obtained in six parameters model of generation means (Mather and Jinks 1971) involving ten diverse inbred lines. From the study of gene effects of F1 generation early flowering was found to be partially dominant over late flowering. The…
Studies on per se performance and quality characters in selected hybirds of Qpm-Genotypes
Per se performance and genetic behavior for Quality Characters in Qpm-Genotypes traits viz, 100-kernel weight, protein per cent, tryptophan and lysine in protein, specific gravity and grain yield were studied in seven selected QPM hybrids in two locations during kharif 2000. Specific gravity, tryptophan and lysine content in protein and protein per cent found as…
Phenotypic Stability Studies for Grain and Straw yields in Maize Composites
Grain and Straw yields in Maize Composites Abstract Eight promising genotypes were studied for three seasons (1989-1991) at the Agricultural Research Station, Amberpet to evaluate their stability for grain and straw yields under kharif conditions. There was a significant variation for genotypes and genotype x environment interaction for grain as well as for straw yields….
Technology for Maize Cultivation in Andhra Pradesh
Maize Cultivation in Andhra Pradesh is mainly grown in Karimnagar, Warangal, Medak, Nizamabad, Adilabad and Randgareddy districts of Andhra Pradesh. This area forms the maize belt of this state. About 2.5 lakh hectares of maize are grown under rain-fed situations in the Kharif season while around 0.6 lakh hectares are grown during Rabi under irrigated…
Association Studies of Grain Yield with its Yield Parameters Under Turcicum Leaf Blight Stress in Maize (Zea Mays,L.)
Abstract Phenotypic and genotypic correlations were calculated under artificial turicum leaf blight stress in maize inoculated conditions to assess the degree of relationship of yield components with grain yield in maize. Genotypic correlation coefficiants possessed higher values for all the yield parameters than phenotypic ‘r’ values. Yield was positively and significantly correlated with number of…
